Spontaneous Combustion - Boise Weekly (http://www.boiseweekly.com/gyrobase/Content?oid=oid%3A217659) Spearheaded by Boise's own avant-garde guitarist and composer Krispen Hartung, last year's Boise Experimental Music Festival (BEMF) was a huge success and received honors that placed Boise on the map of other top-shelf music festivals from around the world. The festival was awarded a grant from the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Last year's event included an array of instrumentation from a string ensemble, to various laptop looping tone manglers, to upside down, backwards trumpeters, to the not-so-common electrified and amplified industrial loom. Needless to say, if you like avant-garde music, it was an auditory treat. BEMF strives to promote and increase awareness of experimental, free improvisation and avant-garde music in the Boise area, provide an annual event for local experimental musicians to perform their art for their peers and experimental music enthusiasts, and to foster local artistic diversity, awareness and representation of avant-garde forms of art. BEMF is one of many other events and efforts in Boise that serve to promote artistic diversity and appreciation. The 2nd Annual Boise Experimental Music Festival is a three-day music event happening April 26-28 at Visual Arts Collective art gallery in Boise's Linen District. The festival will feature over 16 local and national performers, including several major national headliners, who fall within the experimental, avant-garde and free improvisation music genres. For
